Helping You Make The Right Choice

First steps

Understanding your care needs is key to beginning your search for a care home, whether it’s for yourself or a loved one.

A good first step is to reach out to your (or your loved one’s) local council for an adult social care assessment which can help you understand your needs and options better.

These assessments are essential for sourcing the most appropriate care and are quite in-depth, so it is always helpful to have a friend or relative with you to make sure you answer all the questions with as much detail as possible.

Undertaking this assessment will really help you identify the most appropriate type of home for your needs, before you start making phone calls.

What kind of residential setting do I need?

There are two main types of residential settings to consider:

Care homes (personal care only)

In a care home, residents receive support with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and mobility. These homes focus on providing personal care in a warm and supportive environment. Care home staff are trained to assist residents with their daily routines, including help with meals and getting ready for the day.

These care homes also have staff who are trained to administer medication and provide some further basic aspects of clinical residential care.

Nursing Homes/EMI Nursing (we do not currently provide nursing care in our homes)

Nursing homes offer all the personal care services of a typical care home, but with the addition of always having qualified nurses on site. This means they are able to administer medications and provide medical care at any time, as well as assisting with daily living activities.

EMI nursing is a dementia nursing setting where those with dementia may have complex needs which aren’t able to be met in a residential setting.
